WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Representative John McGuire (VA-05) introduced the American Dream Act. This bill will allow individuals 65 years-of-age or older to sell any real property, including rental and vacation homes, with the sales price of $500,000 or less to a first-time homebuyer without the sale being subject to capital gains.

As of 12:01 a.m. on October 1, funding for many federal government operations has lapsed. I supported a package passed by the House that would extend current funding until November 21, 2025, but the proposal did not pass the Senate.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Representative John McGuire (VA-05) introduced the Requiring Excise for Migrant Income Transfers (REMIT) Act. This bill will increase the current 1 percent tax on remittance transfers to 15 percent. Companion legislation in the United States Senate is led by Senator Eric Schmitt (R-MO).
