Rep. John McGuire’s Statement on the Uranium for Energy Independence Act of 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative John McGuire (VA-05), today released the following statement on the Uranium for Energy Independence Act of 2025: 

“My bill, H.R. 1622, does not overturn the Commonwealth of Virginia’s moratorium on uranium mining. The legislation aligns with the Trump Administration’s goal of recognizing the national importance of uranium as a critical mineral, as it did during his first term. Uranium has defense, health, and technological uses. As introduced, the bill does not usurp the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling on the Commonwealth’s moratorium as certified in 2019.”
