Rep. John McGuire Introduces the Uranium for Energy Independence Act of 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative John McGuire (VA-05), today introduced the Uranium for Energy Independence Act of 2025, legislation that adds uranium to the United States Geological Survey's (USGS) list of critical minerals. 

"Uranium plays a vital role in our nation’s nuclear capabilities and fuels 32 percent of the electricity in Virginia," said Rep. John McGuire. "Unfortunately, it is not designated as a critical mineral. This oversight means that our energy producers are bogged down by unnecessary regulations, and our consumers are forced to rely on energy from our foreign adversaries, which compromises our national security. The Uranium for Energy Independence Act of 2025 supports President Trump’s America First - U.S. energy dominance agenda, unlocks the potential for uranium use, and lists uranium on the United States Geological Survey’s critical mineral list. I am proud to introduce this bill and take an important step toward securing our supply chains, promoting uranium as a critical mineral, and reducing our reliance on foreign nations."
