Rep. John McGuire Sworn In To the 119th Congress

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative John McGuire (VA-05), released the following statement after being sworn into the 119th Congress by House Speaker Mike Johnson.

“I am extremely honored and humbled to serve the over 775,000 Virginia residents who call the Fifth Congressional District home,” said Rep. McGuire. “As a Member of Congress, I will work to promote President Trump’s vision for our country and I will work to aggressively reduce waste, promote efficiency in our government, and fortify our border. I cannot wait to get to work for Virginians and restore the future for our young people.”

In the 119th Congress, Rep. McGuire will serve on the House Committee on Armed Services and the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability.

Rep. McGuire was born and raised in Central Virginia. As a child, he was abandoned and spent his early childhood years in the foster care system, attending nine different elementary schools. By the grace of God, his grandparents rescued him and his older sister from the foster care system and raised them until their dad obtained sobriety. 

After high school, Rep. McGuire immediately enlisted in the United States Navy.  He spent 10 years as a Navy SEAL, became a sniper, completed several deployments to countries around the world defending our nation against evil, and became a sniper instructor before returning home to Virginia.

Back in his hometown in Central Virginia, Rep. McGuire founded his small business, SEAL Team PT, Inc., a fitness organization dedicated to helping teams and individuals become stronger, healthier, and confident. 

In 2018, Rep. McGuire was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates, where he quickly developed a reputation as a conservative leader who brings people together as a team to solve problems. Six years later, Rep. McGuire was elected to the Virginia State Senate where he served on the Local Government Committee, the Privileges and Elections Committee, and the Transportation Committee.

Rep. McGuire and his wife, Tracy have raised five children and now live in Goochland, Virginia.
