Justification: The funding would be used to purchase a new radio communications system for local law enforcement. The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because the new communications system will serve a rural county, enhance interoperability with five neighboring counties and the Town of Farmville, and provide reliable public-safety-grade service for the next 20 years.

Justification: The funding would be used to purchase a modern Mobile Command Center (MCC) to replace the agency’s existing mobile command vehicle that has been in service since 2003. The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because it will enhance the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office’s ability to respond to emergencies and protect the residents it serves.

Justification: The funding would be used to expand and administer the National Criminal Justice Command College and related executive education programs that strengthen leadership capacity across public safety agencies. The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because it strengthens Virginia’s public safety workforce and leadership, supports Virginia State Police and local agencies, and enhances public safety across the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Replacement Fire Engine for Louisa County

Justification: The funding would be used to purchase a new fire engine to service a 514-square-mile area. The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because it will replace a 15-year-old frontline fire engine to improve reliability for the public, enhance firefighter safety, and ensure the department can continue providing efficient fire suppression and emergency services throughout the county.

 

Advanced Metering Infrastructure and Water Meter Replacement

Amount: $1,040,000

Justification: The funding would be used to implement an Advanced Metering Infrastructure system by updating the current manually read water meters across its public water system. The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because it will serve a rural community, help residents address water leaks sooner, reduce the cost of water and sewer bills that disproportionately burden low-income households, and support better system management.

 

Chase City Water and Sewer Infrastructure Improvements

Justification: The funding would be used to replace aged existing pipes and structures to maintain a safe water and sanitary sewage supply and discharge. The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because it will serve a rural community by improving the capacity and resilience of the Town of Chase City’s water and sewage infrastructure.

Justification: The funding would be used to purchase replacement parts and reroute the raw water intake for the Town of Victoria’s water filtration plant. Justification: The funding would be used to repair and improve four Albemarle County-operated dams to comply with Virginia dam safety regulations. The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because it will address structural instabilities and upgrade failing infrastructure, protecting downstream lives and property, and preventing a catastrophic failure. This would hopefully mitigate the need for FEMA funds in a disaster situation.

The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because it will equip the County Sheriff’s Office, Emergency Communications, Emergency Services Administration, and the Magistrate’s Office with a consolidated base of operations and state-of-the-art capabilities to respond to threats and keep the rural community they serve safe.

Justification: This funding would be used to redevelop the potable waterline serving the Allan C. Perkinson Airport and Industrial Park and the Virginia Army National Guard base at Fort Pickett. The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because it will ensure compliance with fire safety regulations and preclude a 12% increase in water and sewage rates for the Blackstone, VA community.
